En el ámbito de la fotografía de moda y publicidad. Ganó el premio lux oro AFP 1996 en la categoría de moda, comenzó a trabajar para Vogue España, realizó numerosos catálogos y campañas. Ganador del premio Lux 1998 en la categoría Retrato, ganador del premio Lux oro 2003 en moda y en 2004 ganador premio Lux oro, categoría desnudos. Campañas realizadas para Samsung, Sony, Suárez, Chrysler, Opel, Inditex, Zara, Lycra, Dupont y recientemente para Pronovias y Unilever. Joan Alsina trabaja habitualmente para revistas de moda como el dominical de El Mundo o la edición rusa de la prestigiosa revista Marie Claire.

Ha trabajado con Isabel Presley en numerosas ocasiones, entre ellas para Suárez joyas y Chrysler; también fotografió la famosa portada del Hola con la familia Presley con Isabel, Chabeli, Tamara etc., la primera vez que posaban juntos. también fotografió al barón Thyssen, Giorgio Armani, etc. Su trabajo ha sido expuesto en el Reina Sofía, en el IBAM, en la Galeria Alzueta y en N2.
